In April 2023, we traveled to Vidanta Nuevo Vallarta for the PGA Tour’s annual Mexico Open. With perfect weather and an action packed week on the course, we saw Tony Finau crowned champion in what was a thrilling finish. With all eyes on him, Finau powered through to take home the victory and cement his name further into golf legend. What was even more amazing is that just 3 hours after he won the championship he was at the Vidanta par 3 course caddying for his kids!
Played at Vidanta’s massive resort property in Nuevo Vallarta, the 2023 Mexico Open was a star-studded event with some of the biggest names in golf including 2023 Masters Champion John Rham entering to take part. 144 players from across the globe made their way for a chance to compete for the $7,300,000 prize.
Good news for all you golf fans out there–the Mexico Open is set to return in April 2024 and it promises to be just as exciting. With a lineup of top players and over $7 million in total prize money and 500 FedEx Cup points up for grabs, the stakes couldn’t be any higher. Better news for all you vacationers out there- – this is an amazing experience to be a part of if you plan on vacationing at Vidanta Nuevo Vallarta, or at any resort in the Puerto Vallarta area, in April 2024. The golf course itself is a world-class championship course designed by Greg Norman, with unbelievable views of the Sierra Madre mountains, jungle surrounds, and undulating fairways. You may even be lucky enough to spot local wildlife on the banks of one of the courses 15 lakes!
Spectators can enjoy the on-site vendor village offering local culture, culinary delights, and hand-crafted cocktails, or they can walk the course as they follow their favorite golfer up close and personal, from tee-box to tee-box. I highly recommend the “aguas chiles” tostadas and paloma cocktails! Attending a professional golf tournament, especially in Mexico, is the perfect combination of fun, competition, and relaxation, and is sure to bring you closer together as a family or group of friends during your vacation. And, if you’re short on time, of course the final round on Sunday is always the most exciting day.
If you are staying at Vidanta Nuevo Vallarta during the tournament, you may run into one of the professionals (many of which were kind and humble) dining at the resort restaurants or taking a quick swim with their families at the pool. However, you will certainly experience a world-class venue that offers its guests a luxurious stay in beautiful tropical surroundings with all the amenities they could want. Our full review of this resort shows that, whether you’re there for the tournament or just on vacation, spending your time at Vidanta Nuevo Vallarta is sure to be an unforgettable experience. With a variety of activities for everyone to enjoy, it’s the perfect place to relax in between rounds of golf or just while away on your vacation days. Personally, my favorite activity is the lighted Par 3 golf course – played at night with a margarita in hand!
